If you have iCloud Drive sync enabled (check Settings → Cloud Sync), your recipes and batch log entries are stored in iCloud and will be restored when you reinstall. If iCloud sync is unavailable, data is stored only on your device — deleting the app will delete it. We recommend keeping iCloud sync active to protect your brewing history.
Tap the Brewday tab at the bottom of the screen. Select a recipe from the dropdown (or choose Quick Brew for a free-form session), give your brewday a name, and tap Start Brewday. You'll be walked through each step with optional timers for mash, boil, and hop additions.
Each step that involves waiting — like Mash Timer or Boil — has an optional countdown timer. Tap the timer ring to pause it, or tap the duration badge in the steps list to adjust the time. You can also add a timer to any step that doesn't have one by tapping + timer next to that step. When a timer finishes, you'll receive a local notification if you've granted permission.
When all steps are complete, the End Brewday sheet opens automatically. Enter your original gravity (OG), final gravity (FG), a star rating, and any tasting or brew notes. Tap Save & end to add the entry to your Batch Log. You can also open the sheet early by tapping End in the top-right corner during an active session.
Yes. At the end of a Quick Brew session (one started without selecting a recipe), the End Brewday sheet shows a Save as recipe toggle. Enable it, give the recipe a name, and Brewday will create a new recipe entry you can build on later in the Recipe Builder.
Tap the Recipes tab and then the + button. The Recipe Builder lets you add grain bill, hop additions, yeast, mash temperature, and boil time. Stats (OG, FG, ABV, IBU, SRM) are calculated live as you build. Recipes are auto-saved as you edit.
Brewday ships with five read-only starter recipes — American Pale Ale, American IPA, Irish Dry Stout, Hefeweizen, and Blonde Ale — designed as accurate, beginner-friendly all-grain recipes. You can use any of them to start a Brewday session but cannot edit them directly. Duplicate a starter recipe to create your own editable version.
Open any batch entry and tap the share icon in the top-right corner of the header. Brewday generates a styled share card — showing your recipe name, rating, ABV, IBU, SRM color, brewday stats, and tasting notes — and opens the native iOS share sheet so you can send it to Instagram, Messages, or anywhere else.
Unfortunately, a cancelled session cannot be recovered — the session data is cleared when you tap Yes, cancel in the confirmation prompt. To avoid accidental cancellations, the cancel action always requires a two-step confirmation.
